The Church of Christ before demolition begins |
The building with its square tiers, mock buttresses and tiled roof was extended in 1957, but was considered no longer suitable for the congregation and will move to River Road. The old site will become a child care centre and townhouses.

Further north in Warracknabeal the old hospital building is being torn apart as some of the buildings make way for the new Rural Northwest Health redevelopment.

Dear Bibliophile (I couldn't find how to address you)
ReplyDeleteI was fascinated by your blog which I have just discovered today. I have recently published a book of short stories based in and around the area you describe, though I have changed many of the names.
My interest in the area stems from my father who spent time there as a child and back in the late 60s/early 70s I visited that area many times, driving around the back roads and into the towns.
I tried to attach a copy of one of my short stories, but don't seem to be able to. I can still send it if you are able to provide an email address.
If you'd like to check me out on http://www.amazon.com/Jan-Merry/e/B007Y57CWI you should be able to see my book. I would be happy to send you a pdf as I will be reading your site on the Wimmera.
Kind Regards
Jan Merry
Hi Jan,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments.
Yes, the library has a copy of your "Place of many birds"
Disappointing to see.....my great great grandfather William Candy was hospital secretary for over 30 years.
ReplyDeleteThen your G-G-Grandfather would be the author of the stories in "Reminiscences of the early Mallee and Wimmera" published back in 1928.
